We all recognize and are aware that a person's name, surname, or title are scrawled in their signature. It serves as evidence of permission, contractual status, and endorsement of the information in a document. Its legal purpose is to confirm a person's identification.

A digital signature accomplishes the same thing. It is a digital declaration of a person's acceptance of the information included in a document or a set of data connected to the signature.

An electronic signature, like its analogous handwritten counterpart, is a recognized legal method of expressing the signer's intent to abide by the provisions of the document they have signed.

It doesn't matter how or what type of "mark" was made. It is important to demonstrate who made the mark and that there haven't been any subsequent alterations to the document.

An electronic signature for human resources is defined as data that is "in electronic form which is attached to or logically associated with other data in electronic form and used by the signatory to sign" in the aforementioned European Union Regulation which defines and governs electronic signatures in the European Union.

Three different kinds of digital signatures

The "basic" electronic signature, the "advanced" electronic signature, and the "qualified" electronic signature are the three forms of electronic signatures as defined by the eIDAS Regulation.

The prerequisites for each kind are derived from the prerequisites for the type that comes before it. So, compared to a "basic" electronic signature, a qualified electronic signature satisfies more requirements.

Straightforward electronic signatures

The definition of an electronic signature is "data in electronic form that is attached to or conceptually associated with other data in electronic form and that is used by the signatory to sign documents online free as we mentioned earlier (eIDAS Article 3).

Therefore, approving the terms and conditions of a website or signing a document and emailing a scanned copy using a username, password, and email address can both be considered simple signatures.

The email address used as the sending account and the signature go together logically. It does not, however, actually establish who the signer is.

This electronic signature, which is frequently referred to as "basic," provides the lowest level of security for that reason.

Contemporary electronic signatures

An electronic signature that satisfies the following criteria is considered advanced.

Identifies the signer, is created in a way that allows the signer to retain control, and is uniquely linked to the signer. It also uniquely ties to the signed data in a way that makes any later changes to that data observable.

A more secure electronic signature is one that has enhanced encryption.
